I) George Washington: Political Parties & Foreign Affairs:

  • Leader of the Contanental Army
  • Helped make the first national American Government
  • Lead the US to victory in the Revolutionar war
  • 1st president of the US

  • Stay away from conflicts with other countrys
  • No political parties
Having No Forign Affairs
  • Not have too fight in an other countrys war
  • Not making enemies
  • Not getting into conficts with other countrys
  • America felt more independent and free
  • threats against America
  • No alies to fight in a War
  • America looked week
  • No one to trade with too get money
Having No Political Parties
  • Everyone gets along better
  • Less conflict between President and Vive President
  • Presidents wouldent be expected to do seartain stuff that
goes with their party
  • The new government was born
  • Some citizens were unhappy
  • People couldn't vote based on partie
  • Presidents would have a harder time deciding what to do

II) John Adams: Aliens-Sedition Act:

  • A patriot
  • A federalist
  • Part of continental congress
  • Did not like slavery

  • Felt is was neccessary to protect the country from troublemakers
  • To make life difficult for the republicans
  • It deals with immagrants
  • The ability to put aliens in jail for being suspected of stirring up trouble
  • The amount of time it takes to become a citizen

Alien Sedition Acts:

  • Keeps America more in order
  • Protects America from troublemakers
  • Makes immagrants take longer to become
a citizen so they know more about the U.S.
  • Makes republicans mad
  • Many people did not like it
  • Aliens can be thrown in jail just for being
suspected of stirring trouble

III) Thomas Jefferson: Louisiana Territory/Purchase

  • Republican
  • He's curious
  • He's tall
  • He believed that people we're well educated and able to make good decisions for themselves
  • He belived that farming was important the most important for the economy

  • Jefferson bought Louisiana to open up trade ports in New Orleans, and the Mississippi river

Louisiana Territory Purchase

  • Opens up a shipping port in New Orleans
  • Shipping passages open on the Mississippi river
  • Napolean couldn't purchase Louisiana if the U.S. purchased it
  • 2 to 3 cents an acre
  • Doubled the country's size
  • A large country would be hard to govern
  • Eastern politicians feared they would lose their power
  • America was poor
  • Louisiana was 15 million dollars
  • People thought it was unconstitutional

IV) James Madison:

  • Served two terms
  • Repulican
  • Fought in the war of 1812

  • Should Madison have declared war on Britain - War of 1812?
  • We thing Madison should have declared war on Britain because the British were capturing American sailors and getting the Native Americans to side with them.
  • France was at war with Britan and were capturing American ships
  • Napolian was the leader of France and he secretly gave the Navy orders to keep on capturing American ships.
  • There was no winner in the War of 1812, but it brought peace to the three countries

  • Stop British from capturing American Sailors
  • Stop Native Americans from revolting
  • Get pride back
  • Get back American sailors
  • America wasn't a very strong Nation
  • Britan had a large army
  • Washington DC got burned down
  • Abandoning not having Forign affairs

Two war heros:
Andrew Jackson
He had to deal with Native Americans and weather to remove them or not

William Henry Harrison
He said he was going to reastablish the Bank of the United States, but he died a moth after his inogeral adress by pneumonia.

V) James Monroe: Monroe Doctrine

  • Democratic-Republican
  • Introduced the Monroe Doctrine
  • Served as president for 8 years or 2 terms

Monroe Doctrine:
  • Kept British from colonizing in America
  • A special relationship with Great Britain
  • Freed Latin-American colonies from Great Britain
  • Separated the new world from the old world
  • U.S couldn't interfere with British colonies
  • Some citizens were not happy
  • The doctrine was invoked (lifted) in 1865
